Business Roundtable – 2/2/2021 – 10:00am
MISSION: success in two stages of the Coronavirus threat:
1) response to the immediate threat; 2) economic recovery when the threat diminishes
RECAP
Response to immediate threat
1. City of Monterey. Recap of current measures within the City. City heavily supporting State efforts to organize vaccinations; letter signed by all Peninsula Mayors urging Board of Supervisors to prioritize vaccinations of Salinas Valley farmworkers; comprehensive budget review starting as revenue from hotel and sales taxes dwindled. Commercial cannabis planning: in addition to townhall meetings, businesses needed to chime in; local business associations reportedly supportive of additional dispensaries in the City with certain location limitations; other aspects of the industry can be reviewed: cultivation or testing, for example in Ryan Ranch Business Park.
2. Hospitality & Tourism. Optimistic prospective for late Spring: travel and small groups; stress on need for additional vaccine supply in County.
3. Retail. Outside dining resulted in uptick in business; entrepreneurial spirit up!
4. State of California. Sacramento Report. Agreement between Blue Shield and Kaiser to increase vaccine distribution; eviction moratorium extended until June 30; Federal government allocated $1.2B to California for assistance with COVID and homeless issues; Monterey County will receive $20.4M from it.
5. Health Care. CHOMP counts 32 COVID patients as of today; first public vaccination clinics started this week (Sold Out: 75 Yrs old and over and health care workers outside of CHOMP); expectation of delivering up to 1500 vaccines/day depending on supply chain;
6. Financial, SBA, Loans & Grants. SBA system operating with minor glitches; new loans show 30% funded; California Grant is now open for 2nd round; results will be given around 2/15; more info regarding grants below.
