Response to immediate threat
1. City of Monterey. Recap of current measures within the City. President’s Day weekend reported successful traffic in hotels, motels, shops and restaurants; City Council will be briefed on budget adjustment tonight; February 24 will be a cannabis hearing, concluding with a vote on staff direction.
2. General Conversation: Ventilation Innovations – Michael Freed, Post Ranch & Bill Hayward, Hayward Lumber. Authorities regard outdoor air as acceptable risk, leading to scientific research using filtration instruments to monitor and determine air change rate at various levels of occupancy; a meter shows indoor quality compared to outdoor air quality; this proven infrastructure is inexpensive and efficient; can be applied to restaurants, schools, gymnasiums, ultimately to areas where groups are meeting (conferences); low exposure to environment and low energy cost penalty; the main objections encountered are: political willingness to embrace the technology, and need for education to customers and public.
3. Hospitality & Tourism. Today’s topic has been critical from tourism angle; California Hotel and Lodging Association working on it.
4. State of California. Sacramento Report. School reopening is a big issue this week; more funding planned for small business relief.
5. Health Care. Flattening on COVID cases at CHOMP: under 20 patients in house with no positive tests or admission (first time since May); Marina and CHOMP locations are vaccine clinics for persons 65+ residing in Marina and Seaside, and for healthcare workers; demand still way more than supply.
