1) Response to the immediate threat
2) Economic recovery when the threat diminishes.

Recap


  1. General Question. How are you preparing to face restrictive measures again?
  2. City of Monterey. TOT increase is a topic for the next two City Council sessions (7/21 and 7/29.) Sports Center was shut down yesterday. Contemplating outdoor classes. Still enforcing facial covering especially in business districts.
  3. Hospitality & Tourism. Message is that outdoor activities are still prevalent in the County, and to be responsible when you visit. Social media has been generally positive. Big Sur area reports open public and private campgrounds providing 600 campsites. Hotels and restaurants (outdoors) are open. County health and ABC conducting surprise visits to verify compliance.
  4. Retail. Downtown businesses are suffering but operating with outdoor permits when possible. Del Monte Shopping Center is considered an outdoor mall, thus is not shut down. However, their gyms, hair and nail salons are closed. Cannery Row also sees struggling stores and additional outdoor activity when available. Hotel occupancy is declining.
  5. State of California. Sacramento report. Governor Newsom sensitive to accusations that he gave into pressure to open businesses.
  6. Health Care. Current report. County has 2,790 positive cases, still climbing. CHOMP has now 12 positive admissions. “Why I wear my Mask” video was completed last week. Link is https://youtu.be/H9KDP209Bhw
  7. Community Foundation. COVID-19 Relief Fund got additional donations last week, bringing up the grants to $2.8M. Small Business Relief Fund still needs more funding. Working with City of Seaside to provide relief to businesses.
  8. Financial, SBA, Loans & Grants. PPP forgiveness phase is starting. Deadline to apply is August 8, 2020.
  9. Non-Profit sector.  Rental assistance is still urgent topic. MBEP has a Salinas Valley Housing Resource Fair this Thursday.
  10. Education. MPUSD has a board retreat tonight to discuss re-opening plan.
  11. Legal. n/a
  12. Human Resources. Material attached.
  13. Transportation. Mobile testing for farmworkers.
  14. Transportation. City Council has allocated $200K for small business assistance. Conversations will take place to leverage that amount with Small Business Relief Fund and save additional businesses in the city.
  15. Monterey County Fairgrounds. Drive-In movies are selling out, and program will be extended until Fall. Opportunities to host outdoor yoga classes and other exercise activities.
