Response to immediate threat:

1. General Conversation: SCORE Central Coast - News: Sean Devine and Pat
Webb. Local Central Coast chapter serves approximately 300 businesses per
year with mentors and professional experts in various fields; all support free
of charge; some workshops available for nominal charge; additional mentors
are always welcome; visit: www.centralcoast.score.org

2. Retail: Both downtown Monterey and Cannery Row experience renewed
activity; retailers have difficulties finding and recruiting employees;
Downtown will resume a smaller version of Farmer’s Market on Alvarado on
May 25; vaccinations will be available.

3. Health Care: www.montagehealth.org has up-to-date COVID-19 vaccine
information, including appointments for residents 16 and 18 years old and
older; CHOMP has administered 50,000 vaccines as of May 10; Nurse week:
creation of a new recognition “The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses”

4. Financial, SBA, Loans & Grants: The new relief package directed at
restaurants offers much-needed support but may be insufficient to reach all;
more local resources for start-ups and small businesses available via SBDC
Central CA network and Cal Coastal.

Helen Baszucki Center for Nursing Excellence
Launched with $6.5 Million Gift to Montage
The center’s mission is to advance nursing excellence through initiatives including advanced educational opportunities, expansion of nursing training and leadership programs, scholarships for bachelor’s and advanced degrees in nursing, and a proposal to significantly increase the number of students in the Maurine Church Coburn School of Nursing at Monterey Peninsula College (MPC).

“This gift is a tribute to the critical work that nurses do in caring for our community,” says Steven Packer, MD, president/CEO of Montage Health. “Nurses are the primary face of care for so many of our patients, and the Helen Baszucki Center for Nursing Excellence is an investment in current and future generations of these indispensable healthcare professionals.”
As more travelers return to the skies, Monterey Airbus will be resuming their Monterey to SFO and SJC airport routes June 1st with enhanced policies and procedures similar to those implemented by major airlines. Main Event Transportation will also be resuming corporate transportation, airport transfers, wine tours and wedding and event transportation.
