Response to immediate threat:
1. General Conversation. Featured Speaker: Monterey County Farm Bureau: Norm Groot presented the Monterey County Annual Crop Report, which is mandated by the state. View all Crop Reports here. It was a tough year with production: COVID-19 additional costs of workforce mandates and market shift, River Fire in Santa Lucia Mountains destroyed up to $100 billion of grapes. Did not process them. "Contracts for food services disrupted and vaporized in first three months.” A lot of the product ended up going to food shelters. “A lot of it had to be plowed under.” 12,000 acres plowed under or not sold. PPE was a challenge. Secured a lot of donations. Testing and vaccinations - did a great job in coordination and accomplishment. 80% of farmworkers vaccinated. Cannabis gets its own report, although it’s an addendum in the annual crop report.
2. Hospitality & Tourism. MCHA submitted a proposal to the Board of Supervisors for an amendment to exempt meetings and indoor gatherings based on state guidelines for vaccination and testing standards for meeting attendees with the understanding that meeting organizers do different things. 3. Healthcare. CHOMP not currently providing booster shots but they are available at area pharmacies for people with significant auto-immune issues. Total Covid Census -14 which includes inpatients with a history of Covid-19 no longer in isolation as well as inpatients within their isolation period
4. Financial, SBA, Loans, & Grants. PPP has slowed down. Continued work on forgiveness for businesses that received PPP loans. Many banks have asked clients to use the electronic systems but some banks are working personally with clients. California Relief Grant; accepting new applications this week.
