Response to immediate threat:

  1. City of Monterey. ADU resolution will be discussed at City Council meeting tonight in response to the state mandate. Disc golf club at Ryan Ranch is seeing improvements and could be draw to the area. 97% of eligible City staff vaccinated. There have been 84 vaccine clinics and 5400 vaccinations by the fire department.
  2. Hospitality & Tourism. 11/8 will see an opening up to international travel. 13% of the market but 20% of revenue. Tourism had a good summer. Luxury travel consistently high numbers, mid-tier 5% lower than summer of 2019 and increased to 12-13% due to Delta Variant for mid-tier businesses
  3. Monterey Herald. Continue to reach community with daily in print and electronically. Featuring Women in Business this week. Impower Luncheon to be held in person, sold out with 250 people attendees.
  4. Financial,SBA, Loans, & Grants. Application for CA Relief Fund Grant over. However if you started an application or it requires documents, you can still complete and be considered. CA may have new grant program similar to Shuttered Venues, details tbd. SBA still processing PPP forgiveness and EIDL still available. 
  5. Healthcare. Covid case rates and hospitalizations continue to decline. There are 4 Covid cases at the hospital as of this morning. It is anticipated that the Pfizer vaccine for kids 5-12 yrs old may receive emergency approval -early Nov. Different dose that approved for those over 12yrs old. Approval for Moderna and J&J booster pending. One confirmed case of the flu in our area. Flu shots recommended. As of October 18, 2021, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) ranks Monterey County at a “moderate” level of COVID-19 community transmission. Compared to a map of all 58 California counties and compared it to a map of the contiguous United States, Not many places have a transmission rate as low as Monterey County.
  6. Education. Allied Health Building for LVN, Nursing, Respiratory care practitioners, paramedic, and dental hygiene open by Spring 2022. Funded by Measure H.
  7. Construction. Storm Water program needs to be in place. 10/15 deadline.
  8. Renewable Energy. Central Coast Community Energy rate model shifting from rebate program to avoid PG&E programs net metering

The Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce is now offering regularly scheduled, in-person office hours to connect local businesses no-fee business resources available in the Monterey Bay region. 

The Business Resource Connection Center located at MPCC offices, 353 Camino El Estero, Monterey, will be staffed by various resource partners on the 1st and 3rd Thursday each month from 11 AM - 1 PM.
