Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee Sets Priorities for 2022
 
Yesterday (Monday, October 25) your Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee met to discuss its priorities for 2022 and recommended a list of priorities for the Board of Directors to adopt. These are the four top issues: (1) Ensuring a Long-Term Sustainable Water Supply; (2) Housing Affordability for Local Workforce - A Balanced Choice of Options; (3) Quality of Life Issues; and (4) Transportation Improvements. The committee added “Litter and Dumping Abatement” to its ongoing list of Quality of Life issues because many Chamber members have complained to us in the past year about the trash everywhere on public land. The committee also recommended that the Chamber’s Economic Vitality Committee adopt Child Care as one of its priorities.
 
Are you interested in the relationship of local businesses with our local and regional governments? The Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee typically meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 3:30 pm. Participation is an excellent way to get inside information on what’s happening with public policy that affects businesses. The committee often features a local speaker to provide detailed background about specific issues or challenges facing the business community, and representatives of various local and regional governments are typically on hand to make short reports and take questions. Your Chamber also has an experienced local Government Affairs Liaison who monitors local governments and provides background and insight on how the Chamber can best represent its members in public policy discussions. Monterey County Illegal Dumping & Litter Abatement Taskforce: This is a working group that includes representatives of city governments and the county, solid waste haulers and landfill operators, law enforcement, business leaders, and community activists concerned about litter and dumping. Monterey County Climate Action Committee Business Focus Group: This is a working group to assist the county in developing the Monterey County Climate Action Plan for 2030, which is required by state law. Learn More
 
Monterey County Advisory Redistricting Commission:  Every ten years, U.S. Census data is used to redraw the County of Monterey’s supervisorial district boundaries.  Each of the 5 Districts has three community members and one alternate on this commission. I sit on the commission as a representative of District 5. I encourage you to attend the meetings or learn about the various tools available to provide input. We will be meeting this Thursday, October 28 at Jesse Sanchez Elementary School & via Zoom. The District 5 meeting will be held for the second time at our office at 353 Camino El Estero on November 18, 2021 at 5:30-7:00pm. Learn More

NEW: Business Resource Connection Center
1st & 3rd Thursday of Each Month | 11 AM - 1 PM

In an effort to connect local small business owners and entrepreneurs with no-fee business services and resources available in the region, the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce had launched the Business Resource Connection Center. Representatives will provide information on business services such as free counseling sessions, access to mentors, human resource guidance, help to acquire loans, how to develop a business plan and many other resources available through its partner agencies free of charge.
