A New & Affordable Health Plan Your Employees Will Love is Coming to Monterey County January 1, 2022
Blue Shield is aiming to transform healthcare in Monterey by introducing a new HMO plan, called Trio. Though it’s been many years since we’ve had a HMO plan in Monterey, Trio will be the first HMO to utilize the physician networks of Montage and Salinas Valley Hospital Memorial medical systems. Based on initial pricing and plan design, Trio looks to be a game-changer and big hit with employers and employees alike. Employer‘s will be able to lower their costs WITHOUT shifting the costs to their employees and employees will get a healthcare plan that covers more of their medical expenses and truly protects them from the high cost of medical care.
For employers who have found themselves in the difficult situation of paring back benefits to cope with staggering premium increases, Trio’s entrance onto the scene is likely to be welcome news. Because Trio is an HMO, co-pays and deductibles are generally much lower than a PPO. As a broker for this plan, we’ve been seeing 17 to 25% rate reductions. Great news indeed!
The rollout will eventually include all of Monterey County but for now it’s limited to businesses located in the 8 zip codes of Monterey (see below).
