City of Monterey. Agenda items for City Council meeting next week include; redistricting of city council. Create 4 districts and retain mayor at large. Finish in 90 days. Roughly 7500 people per district. Williamson and Smith are up for re-election in 2022 with districts. Appeal against Avid Hotel. “Our city has an older inventory” of hotels. Replace with a product with appeal in 2022. Open session item next week.
Hospitality & Tourism. Mask mandate implemented on state level beginning December 15, 2021 - January 15, 2022.
Health Care. CHOMP has 12 cases in house with 1 in ICU. Omicron not detected in Monterey County. Montage Health will host a vaccine clinic on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at Embassy Suites in Seaside form all ages 5 and older.
Conference Center.Mask mandates-notifying clients. Slow until start of new year. First Night Monterey returning. California Association of Realtors conference in mid-January. In process of bringing in more staff, will be up to 50% of staff and business pre-pandemic.
Transportation. MST. New line in King City Monterey County. Economic Development office will be doing outreach regarding ARPA programs and funding
MPCC Government Affairs.AMBAG (Assoc. of Monterey Bay Area Governments) methodology for allocating housing needs for local jurisdictions. City of Monterey states the CA Economic Development Department reports number of jobs in the city that is significantly above the actual number. Because of water credits and lack of vacant land, Monterey can hardly add any housing units anyway, let alone the large number proposed by Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA). MPUSD lawsuit means school board will soon represent an individual district. Monterey County BOS is moving forward with creating a new management position of Monterey County Director of Homeless Strategies and Solutions. Campus Town in Seaside needs an extension of time from City of Seaside for development because of an environmental lawsuit and complications caused by Covid-19. 300 Cannery Row (Aeneas Cannery) needs an extension of time from City of Monterey for development.
