Board of Supervisors Considers Funding for VIDA Project, a Community Asset 

Today (March 8, 2022), the Monterey County Board of Supervisors will consider additional public funding to support the work of the VIDA Project through the end of the year. Overseen by the Community Foundation for Monterey County, the VIDA Project has engaged in direct personal outreach over the past 15 months to encourage vaccinations, self-quarantines, and health precautions for Monterey County residents outside of traditional medical and communications systems. Your Chamber of Commerce has tracked the performance of this organization in its difficult task and gives it substantial credit for the unexpectedly strong performance of Monterey County in controlling the epidemic. In the fall of 2021, the Monterey County infection rate remained among the lowest of all U.S. counties - a dot of blue in a sea of red on the national map.
 
Although COVID-19 has seemingly gone into retreat in the past few weeks, your Chamber joins local health systems in the belief it is prudent for Monterey County (and private organizations) to help maintain the structure of the VIDA Project through the end of the year, while appropriately considering reduced demand for its services and its intended mission.

Monterey County CVB Strategic Planning Survey

For the first time ever, MCCVB is developing at Five Year Strategic Plan that will allow them to reimagine the County’s second largest industry. Your input will be valuable to the planning team tasked with setting the strategic direction for MCCVB and the county's tourism industry for the next five years. The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete. The deadline to take the survey is Tuesday, March 22. 
County Supervisors to Host Regional Water Forum

The Monterey County Board of Supervisors will be holding a forum at 1:30 p.m. March 15 to discuss regional water issues in northern Monterey County.
The purpose of the forum is to provide an overview of current efforts regarding water management and sustainability and to initiate a comprehensive discussion on regional water supplies and solutions. The focus will be on over-drafted areas in the180/400-Foot Aquifer, Monterey, Langley and Eastside Subbasins and areas of northern Monterey County outside of those subbasins.

The meeting will be held in the Board of Supervisors Chambers at 168 W. Alisal St., Salinas or by Zoom. For more information, contact Chair Supervisor Mary L. Adams.
