Recap
Hospitality & Tourism. Week ending 3/5 - ADR(Average Daily Rate) 26% over pre-pandemic, while occupancy down 20% compared to pre-pandemic. Group Meeting market stabilizing. February: 82% of 2019 booking levels. CVB at 85%. Marketing team is back on the road. "Book Now" promotion secured more that 1,400 rooms per nights. Leisure travel solid.
Return to Work Environment. Some people coming back into the job market, but still shortages. Noticeable gap in hospitality in particular. Some commuters now looking to work locally, robust remote/hybrid. Change in mindset of owners seeking temp to hire, seeing raises in pay rates. Housing too expensive for regional wages.
Non-Profit - Return to Work Environment. United Way seeing 2/3 of loss in staff in the past two years due to out of area moves. Pre-school operators are happy about lifting of mask mandate. Was a liability for language development. Many hybrid work arrangements, but preference for team building and collaborative work from in-person work. People applying for jobs assuming they will work remotely. Noted that gas prices may affect willingness to work/live in region.
Monterey Bay Football Club. First game played in Phoenix. Monterey Bay FC will play at Cardinale Stadium on the campus of CSUMB. Video scoreboard went up at stadium. Remodeling what was a U.S. Army stadium. 6,000 capacity stadium off of 2nd street. Adequate parking, redoing grandstands. Alvarado Street beer garden, new lighting, bleachers. First home game Saturday, May 7 against Las Vegas. Learn more at www.montereybayfc.com.
Community Foundation. The Board of Supervisors approved extending funding for the VIDA program through December 31. 1.5 million commitment that supplements a 3.9 million Health and Human Services Grant. Keep Community Health Worker at 50 - thanks to Chamber for support.
MST. Federal mask mandate extended to 4/18/22 which means masks are still required on public transit.
Construction. Increase in gas costs = increase in construction costs.
Retail. Barnyard - the few offices are operating normally and have been for some time, although staff still wearing masks. Interested in seeing how offices which remained totally closed down are faring. Commented that although vaccination and boosters may minimize the symptoms of Covid, it is still out there.
