MISSION: success in two stages of the Coronavirus threat: 1.) response to the immediate threat - 2.) economic recovery when the threat diminishes.

Recap

  1. Hospitality & Tourism. Occupancy rate was at 60% (down 15% from last year), ADR ( Average Daily Rate) $220 (up 38% from last year). MCCVB is conducting their first 5 year Strategic Plan and is working with the Coraggio Group. They invite community participation in their survey and will host the last of their three in-person community forums, residents are encouraged to participate as well -next week on Thursday-April 7th at the Salinas Sports Complex.   2. City of Monterey. The City of Monterey encourages the public to ask the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) to allocate water for affordable housing in the city. Ask during the general public comment period on April 5th ( for items not on the meeting agenda). City is currently in budget discussions.
  3. Health Care. Seeing reduced CV-19 impact. 2 visitors are now allowed during expanded visiting hours, which are from 10-8, allowing one guest in the emergency room. Approach will be fluid for the foreseeable future.
  4. County of Monterey.  California Microbusiness Grant. See information below.
  5. Financial, SBA, Loans, Grants. Workforce Development Board administering $2500 grant for “microbusinesses” significantly impacted during the pandemic. Gross of $50,000 or less in 2019 and less than 5 employees. Your Chamber is a partnering with the SBDC, Monterey County Business Council, Pajaro Valley, and Salinas Valley Chamber to support. Prime rate up from 3.25% to 3.5%, floating loan rates will pay more interest, SBA 7 loans.
  6. MST. Federal mask mandate extended to 4/18/22 which means masks are still required on public transit. MST is hiring.
  7. Construction. Bid market is hot.
  8. Education. MPUSD is hosting a recruitment fair for a number of classified positions on April 20, 2022 from 9:00 AM -12:00 PM.  Current high demand classified positions include Early Learning Assistants, After School Program Leaders, Nutrition Services positions and more.   9. The Herald. Reports they will be producing a special section in June to celebrate 100 years of publishing.
