A Conscientious Proposal from a Diverse Monterey County Business Coalition to Recommend COVID-19 Workplace Safety Protocols for Employees and Customers Presented By The Monterey County Board Of Supervisors.
MISSION: Success in two stages of the Coronavirus threat:
1) Response to the immediate threat
2) Economic recovery when the threat diminishes.
City of Monterey: City budget needs to be revised as $14-20M losses are projected in future. Many demands are made to waive fees, provide services and reduce rents, but no federal funding received to date.
Hospitality & Tourism: Plan to focus marketing on leisure travel. Group business active but starting in 2021-2025.
MPCC: Idea Proposal: Chef Coats to be publicly displayed in order to signify the importance of the culinary industry in the region. It can be sending a positive message rather than a lament. Reality is that some restaurants will close forever. “Let’s not see this happen here.”
State of California: Sacramento report. Both houses in session for the last week. Governor Newsom will announce some lifting on restrictions today.
Health Care: A couple of positive cases identified at CHOMP but none are in the hospital. With the spring harvest starting, anticipation of increase in infections. CHOMP does some in-house testing.
Community Foundation: COVID-19 Relief fund for non-profits has deployed almost $2M to date. The Small Business Relief Fund has now final guidelines and protocols. Online application to be on Chamber website shortly.
Financial, SBA, Loans & Grants: SBA PPP Loans – second phase is smooth. There are still $10B available. US Chamber Foundation has small business funds available, and some other sources like service clubs and various disaster response funds. (minority, veterans, women-owned businesses etc.)
Non-Profit sector: SCORE has mentoring via video, namely dealing with next steps for re-opening. Dance for Kids is affording sponsorships to students.
Education: Higher education reps will participate starting next week. MPUSD board is having a retreat tonight to consider future after coronavirus.
