Recap

  1. City of Monterey. Turnout for the 4th of July Parade was roughly 75% in comparison to 2019.  Budget was approved on June 29, 2022.  154 million with general and special funds.  Optimistic in revenue projection. New tax measure approved by City Council to add 4% in business license taxes to commercial cannabis, with second reading to increase up to 6-8% as an option. 
  2. County of Monterey.  Monterey County Fairgrounds has full calendar of events. Cali Roots added fourth day to their event this year, and has scheduled for next year as well.  Sound mitigation and parking were concerns.  High Country Music Festival will be held on 10/14-10/15. RV park is seeing cancellations, perhaps due to rising fuel costs. The Monterey Scottish Games & Celtic Festival is coming.
  3. Hospitality & Tourism. The MCCVB annual meeting is on September 7 at the Embassy Suites and is open to the public. Monterey Conference Center was quiet last week, but picking up with the International Fresh Produce Association Conference and Organic Produce Summit.
  4. Financial, SBA, Loans & Grants.  Drop in 10 year treasury -10 basis points.  Pinnacle Bank will present on “Fraud Detection” presented by Sandee Kiehl-all members welcome to attend in person or virtually -no-fee seminar. Join Zoom Meeting.
  5. ReGen Monterey. Formerly Monterey Peninsula Waste Management District. Update on new logo and rebrand with focus on regenmonterey.org.  The new brand reflects the organization’s mission, updating it from managing waste to reducing it towards an eventual goal of zero. The rebrand unites all the many different things they do, including recycling, composting, landfill management, education, advocacy, technical innovation, landfill gas to energy, and much more.
