MISSION: success in two stages of the Coronavirus threat: 1.) response to the immediate threat - 2.) economic recovery when the threat diminishes.

  1. Healthcare. COVID-19 - locally there are 19 positive cases hospitalized at Community Hospital. Most are the sub-variant BA5. There are cases of monkeypox, but is not yet widespread. Important to understand the illness in order to protect ourselves and our community. Montage Health has a dedicated monkeypox website with links to helpful resources as well as an interview with Dr. Martha Blum, director of infection prevention at Montage Health. We are encouraging everyone to take extra time to get to all their critical appointments during car week as traffic will be heavy around the hospital and other areas of the Peninsula later this week. Running normal operations in regular communication with local law enforcement and the county should any emergency present itself
  2. County of Monterey. Economic Development Committee - in the application period. 14 members, 2 supervisors (Phillips, Adams), 12 additional members representing different aspects of business. Link to application. Time commitment: bi-monthly meetings. September & November for 2022.
  3. Sand City. Sand City mural festival starts on August 18th.The  27th-28th is West End. On South of Tioga  - another regulatory obstacle overcome with approval from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
  4. Hospitality & Tourism. Custom House Plaza and Conference Center - lots of activity with RM Sotheby's. 2 City events cancelled in 2022; Russo & Steele on Dustbowl parking lot and Genesis in Pacific Street parking garage.   
  5. Financial, SBA, Loans & Grants. SBA 504 loan - purchase property where you operate your business. 4.98% fixed rate. California Dream Fund grant program still going. Monterey County Workforce Development Board - microgrants still available.
  6. Transportation. SURF BRT - finished environmental documents, final design - Learn more. August 31 open house in Marina with revised video. 25m state grant + $2.5 earmark in FY 2022-23 from the state. Construction in 2024, operational in 2027.
