In conformity with the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws of the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, the Nominating Committee recommends the following candidates for election to the Board of Directors to serve a term beginning January 1, 2023. The candidates – who have been interviewed personally by the Nominating Committee and approved by the Board of Directors – have indicated their willingness to serve and are deemed to have the necessary qualifications for becoming successful board members.

 

The members of the nominating committee wereKevin Causey, MPCC Board Chair-Elect, Montage Health; Jennifer Kuyper, Pinnacle Bank, MPCC Board Chair; Keith Severson, Graniterock; Katy Castagna, United Way; Kathryn Avila, Avila Construction, MPCC Board Member; Monica Lal, MPCC President/CEO.

The nominees include:


Bonaventura (Turie) Cavaliere, Chief Financial Officer, LanguageLine Solutions


Turie has more than two decades of financial and accounting experience. After graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Accounting from the University of San Diego, Turie became a CPA during his tenure with one of the top accounting firms in the world, Deloitte. After joining LanguageLine in 2007 he has held a continuous succession of roles with increased levels of responsibility. In 2013 Turie was promoted to Controller where he was responsible for planning, strategy, and management of all accounting functions. In 2017 Turie was promoted to LanguageLine CFO and in 2021Turie was promoted to CFO for all parent company (Teleperformance) Specialized Services. Turie has been a key member of the LanguageLine team that has helped the company grow over 400 percent in the past decade.



Robert Freiri, Executive Director, Gateway Center of Monterey County


Robert Freiri is the Executive Director of Gateway Center of Monterey County. Robert has been a nonprofit Executive Director for 25 years including Habitat for Humanity Silicon Valley. Robert has been a Nonprofit Manager for 35 years. He has been involved in many community boards and committees including Loma Prieta Community Foundation, the Role Model Program, and Santa Clara County Housing Collaborative. 


Robert is currently a member of Monterey Rotary and was the 90th Hollister Rotary Club President in 2014. Robert has also served in other Rotary capacities: Foundation Chair, Community Service Chair, World Service Chair and Scholarship Committee. “The Rotary motto, 'Service Above Self,’ is not just a motto for me, it’s a way of life.”


His wife of 33 years, Bridget works for the Loma Prieta School District, daughter Christiana is a Special Education Teacher/Coordinator in Walnut Creek, and son Nicholas is a Sports Analyst for California Berkeley’s Athletic Department and recently graduated from the University of San Francisco Sports Management Masters Program.

Notice of Right to Nomination by Petition

Chamber members in good standing have the right to place in nomination by petition the names of other qualified members of the Chamber. The requirement of any such petition is that it must be signed by at least 20 voting members of the Chamber. The deadline for returning such petition to the Chamber office shall be the tenth day after the sending of this notice. The Nominating Committee shall review all such petitions received, and its determination as to validity, judged exclusively on compliance with the Bylaws, shall be final.

Get Involved: California Coastal Commission Meeting & Monterey Peninsula Water Supply Project


The upcoming three-day November California Coastal Commission meeting will address the Monterey Peninsula Water Supply Project on Thursday, November 17. The Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce encourages our Members to participate in this meeting, including submitting public comment to the Commission. 


As the November 17 meeting date does not include time for public comment, all comments must be emailed to EORFC@coastal.ca.gov by 5:00 PM on Friday, November 11 to be distributed to the Commission.
