High-Profile, Pivotal Vote on Thursday to Determine Future Monterey Peninsula Water Supply
On April 23, 2012, California American Water Company (Cal Am) submitted its application to the California Public Utilities Commission to build a desalination plant. On Thursday, November 17, 2022, the California Coastal Commission will meet in Salinas to vote on a permit to allow this plant to be built.
Your Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce maintains its long-standing goal of ensuring a long-term sustainable water supply through a strategy of supporting a "three-legged stool" of desalination, water recycling, and aquifer storage and recovery. This will ensure water supply is available when residents, businesses, and public agencies (including the military bases and public K-12 school and community college districts) want and need it.
