The Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee
A Member Benefit for You
Your Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee held its first meeting yesterday (January 23, 2023) with substantial attendance both in the Chamber’s conference room and virtually via Zoom.
Newly-appointed Monterey City Councilmember Gino Garcia introduced himself to the committee and discussed his interest in economic development and housing construction on North Fremont Street. The committee also discussed Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) excess water diversion from the Carmel River following recent rains and an anticipated Monterey City Council vote in February to prohibit cruise ship passengers from coming ashore at city facilities.
The Government Affairs Committee has determined its 2023 goals and objectives based on committee discussions, past experience, staff recommendations, and survey results from attendees at the Chamber’s annual Leadership Luncheon (see survey results below).

2. Housing Affordability for Local Workforce - A Balanced Choice of Options
3. Quality of Life Issues
4. Transportation Improvements
The status of these issues are reviewed at every committee meeting, and usually there is an invited guest who speaks in detail about one of these issues.
The committee will continue its hybrid meetings until further notice.
