Santa Cruz County Bank NOW OPEN in Salinas!

We had a wonderful time celebrating the Grand Opening of the newest, full-service Santa Cruz County Bank branch in Salinas. The Salinas branch is the Bank’s second full-service banking office within Monterey County.

Litter and Dumping Remains Concern for Monterey County Board of Supervisors

Perhaps the litter and dumping in Monterey County isn’t as bad as it was during the time of the COVID-19 public health restrictions (for example, Caltrans has been noticeably effective recently in keeping Highway 1 clean), but litter and dumping remains a significant problem for our beautiful county. Today (February 14, 2023), the Monterey County Board of Supervisors received a presentation from the Supervisor of Solid Waste Management Services of the Monterey County Health Department’s Environmental Health Division and the Resource Recovery Manager of Salinas Valley Recycles (formerly the Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority) about the status of the Monterey County Illegal Dumping and Litter Abatement Task Force. Also speaking during the meeting was a representative of ReGen Monterey (formerly known as the Monterey Regional Waste Management District - MRWMD). 

The Illegal Dumping and Litter Abatement Task Force has proposed installation of cameras at popular sites for illegal dumping and a research project to identify ways to discourage or prevent this kind of behavior. See the staff report at Board Report and the slide presentation at Presentation Item No. 12. There will be an upcoming vote at the Board of Supervisors on authorizing the cameras. Funding for the research project will be included in the county’s next annual budget.

Your Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee has identified "Litter and Dumping Abatement” as a 2023 priority under “Quality of Life Issues.”
