MISSION: We seek to provide timely, informative updates on regional topics relevant to our members.

Recap:

1. City of Monterey. 45 trees fell in City jurisdiction from weekend storm; 20 on Presidio. 12 road closures in City jurisdiction. NPS tree fall contributed to Comcast/Power outage. Pocket restored yesterday in New Monterey 3-4 blocks near Irving Street. There were 2 assistance centers - Youth Center and Library. Used 2 mobile generators and Verizon temporary antennas at locations. Verizon antenna blew off Marriott – impacted service over weekend. Today - 2 trees down in Monte Vista & Skyline, live wires on street. From City Manager Hans Uslar: We’re on it! 27 crews here for storm.  A firefighter injured Thursday in PG is back home.  Carmel - significant tree issues.  The city emergency center is likely to close at noon based on forecasts. Highway 68 - closer margin than January.
2. Healthcare. To prepare for weather-related emergencies, Community Hospital activated its Hospital Incident Command System as a precautionary measure. In the event of power outages, the hospital can still provide services as it can fully run on back-up generators and had a fuel supply to last for many days. Healthcare system is also providing hotel rooms for staff who cannot get to/from home so that they can continue to care for patients. It is advised to take extra time to get to your appointments today if you have one scheduled. It is possible that some of Montage Health’s offsite facilities have lost or will lose power today or Wednesday. We encourage community members to check if the facility is open or go to our “alert” website at www.montagehealth.org/alert. 
3. Luis Alvarez - Hartnell Stem EXPO. Hartnell College STEM taskforce event next week: Monterey County STEM Talent Expo 2023. All tables booked - Digital Nest, local Chambers, etc. Jeannette D’Acosta of Driscoll is Keynote. Public invited to attend Wednesday, March 22, 1:30 - 4:30 PM.
4. Non-Profit - KAZU. From Kellsy Panno: KAZU underwriting storm related messaging/PSA’s from non-profits or business events that are canceled, PSA welcomed at no cost Contact: kpanno@kazu.org 
5. Hospitality - MCCVB. Second time this year hospitality industry supporting local residents by providing reduced evacuee hotel rates, lifted pet policies and other support: Community Connection Page links to Hotel Evacuation Rate List. Back to last year’s occupancy for the week. Still showing some softness versus last year with group outperforming and transient lagging. NEW: Monterey County launches Artichoke Trail. Feature airing Thursday, March 16 at 11 AM on the Rachael Ray Show (CBS or KSBW channel locally).  Delaying a few complimentary tactics to promote the artichoke trail due to the weather but still a big national exposure opportunity designed to drive brand awareness that will lead to long-term bookings. 
6. United Way of Monterey County.  2-1-1 County Dept of Emergency Management and 211 system in use: https://www.unitedwaymcca.org/211 .will help with recovery and FEMA communications. Pajaro community - coordination between two counties is important and groups filling in gaps.
7. Financial. Community banks have been clear they are strong financially and watching closely interest rates and its local impacts.
8. Construction.  Graniterock - Pajaro Levee - Providing materials and construction
9. MPCC. We are looking forward to recognizing our honorees at the 114th Annual Awards Dinner. Many of our members, businesses, non-profits, retail, have experienced significant financial losses due to storms. Business concerns include staffing, school closures, threat of road closures, and utility impacts. Latest National Weather Service Forecast

The most impactful period for the Monterey community during this current storm will last into Wednesday, March 15. With soils already heavily saturated, this storm system could continue to bring down trees and power lines, resulting in the disruption of electricity and mobile communications service.

Be Prepared:

1. Be alert to your surroundings and aware of potential danger from falling trees or power lines. If you lose power, please stay home if you can. If you need to drive on the roads, use extreme caution. Treat dark signal lights as a four way stop. Never get near downed power lines.
2. Use the resources provided at https://monterey.org/stormcenter, through local news stations, and County resources to stay abreast of the latest situation.
3. Call 9-1-1 in emergencies, or the Police non-emergency number at (831) 646-3914 if you need non-emergency assistance. You can also call United Way Monterey County at 2-1-1 for assistance to find out how you get help.
4. If you lose cellular service and/or power, you can visit the Monterey Public Library or the El Estero Park Center to charge your phones and connect to Wi-Fi. The Library will be open Tuesday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and El Estero Park Center will be open Tuesday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. PG&E’s Outage Map is the best resource to monitor power restoration status.
5. PG&E has confirmed that more than two dozen crews are in the area to address issues and maintain infrastructure. Please understand, if downed trees bring down power lines, City tree crews will respond quickly, but they must wait to move the downed tree until PG&E responds and gives them the okay to do so. This means that if a tree impacts a roadway, that street will remain closed until that process is complete.
6. Please do what you can to check-in on and help a neighbor or two.

All-In Monterey County is in need of physical donations including: laundry detergent, all cleaning products, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, paper towels, toilet paper, diapers, baby wipes, and nonperishable/unexpired food items.
