Recap:

County of Monterey. Monterey County Economic Development Committee meeting on May 17 from 3:00 - 4:30 PM. Contact Richard Vaughn, Economic Development Manager, (831) 784-5602 or at vaughnr@co.monterey.ca.us to receive notices for the meetings. Board of Supervisors will be reviewing fiscal budget for 2023 - 2024 on 5/31 and 6/1.
Montage Health Foundation. CHOMP ER is very busy. Public encouraged to use urgent care clinics when appropriate, as they may be better served. Montage is ramping up its volunteer program and therapy dog program that shut down during the pandemic. Pre-pandemic they had 611 volunteers and 37 therapy dogs. They currently have 404 volunteers and 18 dogs. New Montage Healthcare Careers Academy for high school students to “shadow” clinicians in the system. Ohana Center for Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health will open in August. In June - August there will be a “road show” for Ohana personnel to talk to community groups at no charge.
Monterey County Convention & Visitors Bureau (MCCVB). Group sales are doing ok (Q1 of 2023, 75% of 2019 Q1 demand). Weakness on transient side, may be due to winter storms and extension of ski season. More media coverage and social media influencer coverage. Pro v Pro series highlighting Women’s US Open in July and local businesses. Artichoke Trai l was a 15-minute segment on Rachael Ray Show. Coming up: Planning for Car Week media roundtable. Monterey Bay Aquarium. Healthy Spring Break attendance. MST Monterey Trolley in service June - August, use permit partnership with City of Monterey and others. Launching new marketing campaign more integrated with MCCVB.
Community. April 29 - YMCA Central Coast Healthy Kids Day. Stay tuned for local event details. April 30 - Big Sur Marathon. Results will be published in Monterey Herald on Tuesday. July 6 - 9 - US Women’s Open Golf Tournament. Monterey Herald will be publishing tournament insert in July 4 issue. Advertising space available.
