Recap:

City of Monterey. Nothing exciting on tonight’s meeting agenda. TOT revenue in May/June is slightly higher than previous years. Slight reduction in parking fees compared to last year. Wednesday, July 26 - study session on governance - how to get an item on the agenda. Rental registry returns to city council for first meeting in September (September 5).
County of Monterey. Economic Development Committee met on July 12, 2023: see July 12, 2023 County of Monterey Economic Development Committee Meeting Agenda Packet. Some items going to Board. Support for CSUMB grant and MBEP program.
TAMC. Imjin Parkway Widening & Roundabout Project - kickoff event was in City of Marina on Saturday, July 15 (2nd start of a major TAMC regional Measure X project - the first was the South County Operations and Maintenance Facility in King City). See Imjin Parkway Widening & Roundabout Project Kick-off Event; See Mayor Delgado’s “Top Ten List Reasons Why We Want to Celebrate the Launch of this Project. Construction starts this summer and will last for 2 years. The highway will never be fully closed. Information about project status can be found at Imjin Parkway Widening & Roundabout Project. Local contractor MPE won the contract. City of Marina is lead agency. "Scenic Route 68 Corridor Improvement Project Open House" on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, 4:30 - 7:30 pm, at the Hospitality Pavilion, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, 1021 Monterey-Salinas Highway. Healthcare. CHOMP Crisis Stabilization Unit for young people has now opened. (Adult unit has already opened.) It provides a better alternative to the Emergency Room for people having a mental health emergency. Cranes will soon be gone for Ohana construction. CHOMP is very busy. No specific individual reason for this.
Monterey County Convention & Visitors Bureau (MCCVB). Data for 4th of July week (July 2-8) - Laguna Seca race and U.S. Open - occupancy has fallen a little bit but rates are up. Us Open : 45,000 tickets sold. Women’s US Open, most watched since 2014. NBC. Most streamed women’s golf event ever. Maligne - "Michelin bid” and hotels announced tonight. MCCVB website for Car Week: Monterey Car Week 2023 & Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance - August 11-20, 2023. August 31 - Annual event with business plan.
Real Estate. Monterey Peninsula market has “rebounded” from 50% slowdown over past several months. Up 25% in 2nd quarter and sales up 29%. Troia house sold in less than a week. "Butterfly House" closed at $29 million.
Utilities. Moss Landing Energy Storage (Vistra) and natural gas plant, largest battery storage in the world. June - Phase III done - another 350 megawatts (MW) went online. Total now operational - 750 MW. “Net Peak Load Hours” in California - batteries provide energy during time - discharge from 4-10 pm. Powers 562,000 homes. Started early design for Phases IV and V (which could provide another 750 MW).
MPCC. Joint project with Building Business Back (a program of MCBC). Satellite office hours throughout the county. Pajaro and King City, Salinas, Monterey - business outreach - grants and certifications. MCBC staff member, Jose now in MPCC offices 3rd Tuesday of the month.

The Chamber's Business Excellence Awards (BEA) Dinner increases public awareness of the vital role business plays on the Central Coast, and gives recognition to those businesses that have achieved excellence in their fields. 300-plus Peninsula business and community leaders attend to show their support for the local businesses that make up the backbone of our community. 1,500-plus votes are cast by Chamber members as well as the general public, and awards are presented to the top businesses in 18 categories.
