  1. City of Monterey. n/a
  2. General Conversation: “How do you assess your COVID-19 preparation plans, policies, and workflow to ensure maximum safety for your employees and customers?” The Monterey City Council is having a special meeting on Wednesday 8/19/2020 to respond to apparent crowding issues at Fisherman’s Wharf #1. Chamber Analysis Report was reviewed and discussed and various strategies were adopted: managing flow of people on the Wharf; If limits are reached, let a number enter as the same leave; re-direct visitors to alternative sites and attractions; set “pop up” establishments to provide fun alternative options; limit parking at 50%; limit beach access to only exercising, walking, or ocean-related activities; increase responsible tourism marketing to Bay Area and Valley markets; emphasize non-tolerant policies via fines and Compliance Officers; send a joint letter to the Monterey City Council co-signed by a coalition of business groups.
  3. Hospitality & Tourism. After the next few more sizeable weekends, a new promotion will focus on learning and remote working on the Monterey Peninsula.
  4. State of California. Sacramento report. State numbers are improving. Some counties are about to get out of restrictions (i.e. Santa Cruz) 
  5. Health Care. Current report. County rolling average continues to rise. Current in-patients at CHOMP: 15. Some hospital staff has become COVID-positive. The no-visitor policy is still strictly enforced, aside for end of life or baby birth. 
  6. Community Foundation. City of Seaside is offering micro-loans ($2,500-5,000) to its businesses. Chamber and Community Foundation will not be involved, contrary to news reports. 
  7. Financial, SBA, Loans & Grants. No action in Congress.
  8. Non-Profit sector. n/a
  9. Education. CSUMB: Campus is closed, staffing at minimum levels, enrollment up a little. Hartnell: Campus is closed, enrollment is higher. New building being built on West Alisal Street.
  10. Legal. n/a
  11. Transportation. n/a
  12. City of Seaside. n/a
  13. Monterey County Fairgrounds.  n/a

Thank you for your interest in the Monterey Bay Area Rail Network Integration Study, which is being prepared by the Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC).

This study will lay the foundation for the implementation of new transit opportunities and additional passenger rail service in the region, connecting residents throughout the Monterey Bay Area and the Central Coast, as well as providing connections to the San Francisco Bay Area to the north and the Los Angeles Basin to the south. A draft of the study is anticipated to be published in winter 2020.

Today we celebrate women of passion and commitment. On this day in 1920, the 19th Amendment of the Constitution was finally ratified.

The women’s suffrage movement was a decades-long fight to win the right to vote for women in the United States. It was a decades-long fight for gender equality.
It took activists and reformers years to win that right, and the campaign was not easy.

There were disagreements over strategy that threatened to cripple the movement more than once. But, 100 years ago today the 19th Amendment was ratified, enfranchising all American women and declaring for the first time that they, like men, deserve all the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
 

The Amendment states:
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Vote your beliefs…find your purpose…champion basic human rights. Don’t let anyone ever convince you that your vote doesn’t count. SO…this fall and every single election, whether by mail or in person, VOTE!
