Recap:

1. City of Monterey. Monterey City Council meeting tonight — August 15, 2023 Monterey City Council Meeting Agenda. Highlights: Approval of a $3.6 million construction contract for street repair work funded by Measure S. The city is continuing to phase out its gas-powered Interceptor parking enforcement vehicles with authorization of the purchase of four GO-4 electric parking enforcement vehicles. The city is moving toward pre-pandemic restoration of Parks and Recreation services with two new hires. The city council will get an update during closed session about the status of negotiations between the city and San Pedro Fish Market Company for 30 Fisherman’s Wharf, a vacant spot on the Wharf that was most recently the location of Scales. The City of Monterey in October will again hold a "Trunk or Treat” Halloween event for families. The Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce will participate in it. Child Care Center at Presidio is shutting down today. City lease with Army expires in 2024. City looking to extend lease to 10 to 25 years; Real estate specialist from Sacramento is working with City of Monterey
2. Healthcare. Ohana Campus Update: Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula’s youth and family mental health program will be moving into its new innovative campus soon. Located in Ryan Ranch, off Highway 68 in Monterey, the campus will allow Ohana to expand its mental health services to families in our community. Outpatient resources and treatment will continue in the new building as well as intensive outpatient therapy, partial hospitalization, and residential programming. The campus is anticipated to open later this fall with outpatient therapy and the residential treatment center is scheduled to open Spring of 2024. Ohana has a heavy focus on prevention, as most mental illness is preventable. Free education in our community schools and for our families will continue at the new campus. In the meantime, online classes are offered virtually. Visit www.montagehealth.org/Ohana to learn more about the campus, programs, and classes. Get involved through career, volunteer, and donation. On August 26 at 7 p.m. Monterey Bay Football Club is partnering with Montage Health Foundation and Ohana in their effort to support the development of mental fitness in children, adolescents, and families in Monterey County communities. Join us for a fun night with a free reusable tote bag for the first 3,000 attendees, a fun halftime activity, and more that will help educate and inspire brighter futures for children and families. Join in on the fun by getting tickets or support the cause. 
3. Education. August 25th from 11:30 am -1:30 pm Monterey Peninsula College will host the MPC Foundation President's Awards Lunch. Attendees will get an update on the College and our Bond projects from MPC's new Superintendent/President, Dr. Marshall T. Fulbright III, who will also share some of his ideas and vision for the college as he comes into his new position. Dr. Fulbright will also bestow MPC's President's Award to this year's recipient, Bill McClintock, celebrated MPC athlete, coach, teacher, administrator, and philanthropist at this special event.
4. Monterey County Convention & Visitors Bureau (MCCVB). July - 80% occupancy rate, 85% last week of July. ADR (average daily rate) remained strong. Industry News: China lifted ban on group tours. A MCCVB official is going to China for discussions. Car Week was a record-breaker last year in multiple categories. MCCVB will continue with responsible travel messages, promotion of the free Downtown Monterey trolley, and its Car Week website. Last year, Car Week events generated $3 million for local charitable organizations and causes.
