Recap:

1. City of Monterey. On Tuesday, September 19-City held second reading of proposed ordinance to establish a rental inventory — See Council Agenda Report here. Potential changes include the addition of a 5 year program sunset, and an exemption from landlords with three or fewer tenants. The evening session was interrupted by hate filled and antisemitic speech.  This has been occurring throughout the state and Monterey was among more than 12 cities targeted. The council will be holding a special session to discuss the ongoing use of virtual participation, as anonymous callers have disrupted public meetings held to address city business and the needs of its residents and visitors. The state of California vs. Hate hotline: 1-833-866-4283 (No-Hate) and the 211 is a local resource if you have been impacted by the recent incident. The City acknowledges that the First Amendment protects the freedom of speech, including offensive and even hateful speech.
2. Healthcare. CHOMP is one of three hospitals in the state using robot assistance to deliver meds, supplies and other items to free up clinical staff to spend more time at bedsides, not to replace staff. In the last several months, over 10,000 deliveries have been made with robot assistance. Flu season, RSV and respiratory illness season is here. You are encouraged to get your flu shots at one of the many providers, grocery stores, clinics, pharmacies. There is a new RSVP program with those pregnant and 60+ or high risk with consultation with your primary care doctor. Message is “Get stuck”.
3. See Monterey (Formerly MCCVB). Countywide occupancy: First half of September, recovery has stalled a bit (Smith Travel Research). However, pending numbers for recent weeks will account for the various groups/events in destinations: FIRA, Cal Travel, RCRC, Jazz Fest. Stay tuned. Cal Travel Summit - most attendees to date, thank you to Monterey Conference Centere, Monterey Marriott, and to the community who helped showcase our destination and make this a successful event. 4. Real Estate. August stats show continued interest in the area. Average single family home in Monterey selling for 1.2 million. 68 transactions in Salinas and 86 on Peninsula cities in August.
5. Construction. End of season is approaching for storm water prevention.
