Recap:
- County of Monterey. County of Monterey Economic Development Committee is meeting again on November 1, 2023. The September 13, 2023 meeting of the committee was canceled. County Economic Development Guide: Monterey County Business Programs and Incentives (English); Monterey County Business Programs and Incentives (Spanish). The Arts Council for Monterey County is a partner with the County of Monterey in creating murals on the walls of stairwells at the County Government Center, located at 168 W. Alisal Street in Salinas. In August 2022, a mural called "Destination, Salinas" was completed on the eastside stairwell by José G. Ortiz (Founder and Lead Art Instructor for Hijos Del Sol Arts Production). A mural is now ready to be created on the westside stairwell that focuses on the Monterey Peninsula community, culture and historical landmarks. The artist is a five-member team called La Neta Murals. - Healthcare. Montage Medical Group continues to be extremely busy. Flu season upon us, recommend getting flu shots and COVID shots. Average of 1500 phone calls per day. Recently added significantly more administrative staff to deal with the increase. 92% of calls answered in 90 seconds or less. 10 -11% of appointments held open for same day visits.
- See Monterey (Formerly MCCVB). City of Monterey: July - September occupancy was at 78% with ADR holding strong. Countywide occupancy for the Week of Sept. 24 was higher than previous year, with higher ADR. October had some big events already with Rebels and Renegades, and California International Airshow had record breaking ticket sales (will have occupancy numbers next meeting). - HR. CalSavers | A simple, trusted way to save for retirement, and failure to act could cost you. The mandate creates a legal requirement and many employers with an average of five or more employees are past their deadline to register or create and exemption. The Program is open for employers with as few as one employee and soon it will be required for them as well if they do not offer a qualified retirement plan. Immediate action is required to avoid penalties that start at $250 per employee and escalate to $750 per employee. Don't mistake this as merely a legal obligation; it's a golden opportunity to support your employees' financial future without any out-of-pocket cost to you or fiduciary liability. CalSavers is designed to be low hassle for employers, requiring no employer match and offering a streamlined facilitation process.
- Construction. Preparing job sites for rainy season. Impacts of interest rates affect some sectors while others continue with new development.
- Media. Monterey Herald will begin marketing for its Tourism special supplement.
- MPCC. Monterey Peninsula Water Management District Board of Directors votes tonight (Tuesday, October 10, 2023) for government takeover of the privately-owned regional water supply system. Water District Meeting Agenda Item: Government Acquisition of the California-American Water Company (Cal-Am) Monterey Water System. Monterey Peninsula Unified School District Board of Trustees votes tonight (Tuesday, October 10, 2023) on possible restrictions for virtual public comment to address the hate speech that's infecting public comment at meetings of local governments such as the Monterey City Council and Monterey County Board of Supervisors. MPUSD Meeting Agenda Item: Discuss and Provide Direction on Protocols for Providing Public Comment through Zoom During MPUSD Board Meetings.

SAVE THE DATE: Highway 1 Elkhorn Slough Climate Resiliency Project News Conference
Save the date and join the Transportation Agency of Monterey County, Assembly Member Dawn Addis and other elected officials and community partners to announce and celebrate the grant of $1 million in State funding for the Highway 1 Elkhorn Slough climate resiliency project that will evaluate potential critical infrastructure updates to the sea level rise vulnerable transportation corridors along the Elkhorn Slough in Moss Landing.
