  1. City of Monterey. Special session of the City Council on Wednesday 7/29/2020 to decide on 2% increase in TOT. Thursday 7/30/2020 will have a presentation on parklets.
  2. General Conversation: Dr. Geraldine TAPLIN, specialist in infectious disease, internal medicine – affiliated with Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula since 1980 – “How do you assess your COVID-19 preparation plans, policies, and workflow to ensure maximum safety for your employees and customers?” A program is offered by Montage Health to have access to Dr. Taplin, free of charge, to evaluate compliance and efficiency levels in businesses.   3. Health Care.  Current report: 4,082 cases in County, 23 fatalities (2 at CHOMP) and 6 in-patients at the Hospital. Rolling 7-day average is trending down. Note: August 5, 2020: CEO Breakfast series with Dr. Steven Packer.
  4.  Hospitality & Tourism.  Messaging is cautious due to resurgence. State is holding off on marketing directed at drive market within California. Monterey Conference Center: protocols for small meetings in development.
  5. Retail. n/a
  6.  State of California. Sacramento report. Focus is on farmworkers and ag industry. Project “Room Key” applies to ag workers to avoid going back to crowded housing. Legislature in session. Now is the time to raise questions.
  7. Community Foundation.  n/a
  8. Financial, SBA, Loans & Grants.  US Congress is working on additional relief.
  9. Non-Profit sector.  County survey on housing and rental assistance. Commercial rentals show the most negative impact (70% experience difficulties) while residential rentals show only 50% negative.
  10. Education.  n/a
  11. Legal. Federal legislation will limit lawsuits for employers’ negligence. Cal-OSHA is conducting inspections for protocol violations. Citations enforced.
  12. Human Resources.  See attachment.
  13. Transportation. MST donated retired vehicles for ag workers use. Fares to resume on Saturday 8/1/2020.
  14. City of Seaside. Writing staff recommendations in preparation for contributions to small business relief fund.
  15. Monterey County Fairgrounds.  n/a

V The Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) is now accepting applications for the California Competes Tax Credit (CCTC). There are $80 million in tax credits available during this application period for businesses that are expanding and adding full-time jobs in the state. The deadline to submit applications is Monday, August 17, at 11:59 p.m.
