Recap:
- City of Monterey. November 7 - City Council Meeting: Final reading of rental registry, 1st reading of Cannabis ordinance – regulate potential cannabis areas for operation: Lighthouse, Cannery Row, Downtown area. Learn about and give input on these projects and more at haveyoursaymonterey.org/projects. Planning commission will be discussing tonight, October 24. Monterey Conference Center recognized by industry meeting planners as the 2023 Stella Award winner for best conference center in the world. Trunk-or-Treat held on October 21, new signature event for City, 2K guests in attendance, MPCC, among a number of community partners and City of Monterey Departments participated. Several large conferences in November.
- County of Monterey. Board of Supervisors Meeting today - Enhanced Finance and Infrastructure Financing district policy for local funding infrastructure improvements.
- Healthcare. Steep rise in respiratory ailments. Beginning November 1, staff, patients, and visitors will be asked to mask in patient areas. Masking is recommended in clinics. November 15, 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM, Katy Butler ”Art of Dying Well.”
- Hospitality & Tourism. Monterey Jazz Festival – 66th Annual Monterey Jazz Festival, sell out crowd. 26.3M social reach with support from local media partnerships, KSBW, KAZU, and Monterey County Weekly. 22K visitors over three days. Average age 36. Vibrant education program with master classes, CSUMB, HBCU program, and 3K young people connected. Tim Jackson honored for 33 year run as artistic director for his contributions to Jazz and the community. Darin Atwater named new artistic director. See full Festival Recap.
- Financial, SBA, Loans & Grants. SBDC will no longer be hosted by Cal Coastal. 2/3 of the local office is retiring. Opportunity for another community partner to host SBDC via the UC Merced procurement process.
- Real Estate. Fall Listings not seeing adjustment. Lenders feeling “pinch” with refinances due to 8% interest rates.

Bureau of Land Management Invites Public to Volunteer Fort Ord National Monument
|
|
The Bureau of Land Management is inviting the community to Fort Ord National Monument on Saturday, October 28 from 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM for a day of volunteer work during National Public Lands Day and Make A Difference Day. Volunteers will be needed to help with native plant landscaping, seed and straw throw, invasive weed removal, native seed collection, oak care and watering, and trail maintenance. Participants are encouraged to bring water, hats, sunscreen, gloves and sturdy work boots.
Following the volunteer work in the morning, participants will be treated to a free lunch, T-shirts and park entry passes hosted by Fort Ord National Monument partners FORT Friends and the National Environmental Education Foundation.
