RECAP: Shuman HeartHouse Shelter Ribbon Cutting and Open House

The Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce was honored to commemorate the opening of Shuman HeartHouse Shelter with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, November 4. Shuman HeartHouse is a first-of-its-kind shelter for the City of Monterey, with the goal of transitioning women and families with children into permanent housing.

“Homeless single women or unaccompanied women and families with children are very vulnerable among the homeless population,” said Robin McCrae, the CEO of Community Human Services.

With 16 single beds and four family bedrooms, 35 people will be able to stay at Shuman HeartHouse. In addition to rooming, there are laundry facilities, a family room and workspace at the shelter. Other CHS support services are also available.

More than 200 people are currently on the waitlist.
