Dr. Steven Packer Celebrates 25 Years as Montage Health's President & CEO

After completing a pulmonary fellowship at UC Irvine, Dr. Steve Packer moved to Monterey County in 1985 for a job at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula as a pulmonary critical care physician. It’s a role he held for 15 years, working his way up to chief of staff by 1998. In 1999, he became CEO of CHOMP.

At the time, it was a 150-bed hospital; today it has 250 beds. And at the time, CHOMP was just CHOMP – now Montage Health includes a range of entities such as Montage Medical Group (now approaching 100 physicians), MoGo Urgent Care, Ohana and Aspire Health Plan. The organization has grown from 1,200 employees to 2,800. “Over time we’ve changed our focus from just acute care inside the hospital to a more integrated system to meet the need,” Packer says.

Dr. Packer recently spoke with the Monterey County Weekly on changes in the past 25 years and what's to come in the next 25.

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am is Here! What You Need to Know:

With the new tournament format comes the opportunity to welcome a new crowd to Monterey County. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am not only has a direct economic impact during tournament week, but event proceeds are donated to the tri-county community (Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz). The Monterey Peninsula Foundation donated nearly $18 million to over 200 nonprofits during the 2022-2023 fiscal year — the highest single year of giving in their history. This included $1 million in emergency relief funds for residents and communities most impacted by the devastating onslaught of storms the tri-county area faced this past winter.

MPCC is excited to welcome back the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am and looks forward to the continued economic impact & growth opportunities the tournament provides for our business community.

Today's practice round was closed to spectators due to inclement weather.

• The current ticket in the fan’s hand will be automatically transferred to Thursday, February 1. This will enable the ticket holder to watch the first round of the tournament with "no additional fees associated with the transfer.”
• Alternatively, fans can also demand a full refund for the practice round tickets. The refund request can be made on the event’s website by Thursday, February 1, at 11:59 pm PST. Spectators can visit www.attpbgolf.com for details about the ticket exchange or refund.
