County of Monterey

• Economic Development Committee: Support a 0.5% allocation to MCBC for government contract work and also SBDC. Will have Finance team draft and bring to Board of Supervisors.

Healthcare

• Montage Health set to hold their first public Annual Meeting since the pandemic. This will also be an occasion to celebrate the 90-year anniversary of Montage Health caring for our community. Link to register.

Monterey Regional Airport

• NEW nonstop service between the Monterey Region (MRY) and Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota (MSP).
• The seasonal flights will be offered on Thursday and Sunday from August 8 through November 3, 2024. Important for both leisure and business travel.

Retail

• Business as usual. Anthropologie coming to Del Monte Shopping Center. Working on other new tenants.

Non-Profit

• United Way of Monterey County offering Free Tax Prep for Monterey County residents. Learn more.

Financial

• 8.5% prime is flat. 30 month to 30 year is ticking up slightly.

MPCC

• We are excited to announce that for the next year, Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Monica Lal will be adding to her repertoire with her appointment to the California Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Read the full Monterey Herald article here.

Business of the Year

The Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce is inviting feedback from our Members to help select a local business as “2023 Business of the Year”. The businesses eligible to receive the award are those who won in their respective categories at the 2023 Business Excellence Awards. The winner will be celebrated at the Chamber’s Annual Awards Dinner on March 23 at the Hyatt Regency Monterey.

Remembering Former Monterey Mayor Peter Coniglio

The City of Monterey is mourning the loss of a huge champion of Monterey, former Mayor Peter Coniglio. Mayor Coniglio passed away early Sunday morning at the age of 94, surrounded by his wife, Rochelle Coniglio, and family. “He loved Monterey and was honored to be a leader in the community,” she remarked. A celebration of life mass will take place on March 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at San Carlos Church, 500 Church Street.

Mayor Coniglio served on the Monterey City Council from 1970 and as Mayor from 1973 to 1976. As Mayor, Mr. Coniglio was the original driver of building the Monterey Conference Center. Mayor Coniglio will be remembered also for transforming Monterey from a fishing capital to a thriving, hospitality-driven economic leader in the region.
