Monterey City Council to Establish a New “Rental Assistance Program”

On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the Monterey City Council will hold a study session on a $200,000 program to “provide rental assistance to eligible households that are faced with housing instability issues.” Go to this link to see the staff report and background information on this proposed program: Review Monterey Rental Assistance Program Guidelines. Also, to comment on the program, go to Have Your Say Monterey: Rental Assistance Program. Your Chamber of Commerce considers this renter assistance program to be preferable to the rent stabilization/rent control proposal supported by some city councilmembers.

What Do You Think of Term Limits for Local Elected Officials?

Some members of the Monterey City Council support a change to the charter of the city that would limit the number of terms that a person could hold as mayor or as a city councilmember. There are pros and cons to government-mandated term limits. If you have any thoughts about what position your Chamber of Commerce should take on term limits for local public officials, contact President &CEO Monica Lal at 831-648-5350 or at monica@montereychamber.com.
