City of Monterey

  • Quick city council meeting tonight. Prop 218 (adjusting sewer rates adjustment increase) will be postponed due to lack of quorum for vote
  • 60% of properties inventoried for rental registry, and a reminder will be sent out soon
  • Monterey High Basketball team will receive recognition for winning D4 state championship

  • Palliative Care vs. Hospice Care — Hospice care focuses on end-of-life support, palliative care can be provided with medical treatment to relieve symptoms like pain or discomfort, manage depression or anxiety caused by an illness or provide connection to social support and resources   


Hospitality and Tourism

  • Big Sur Update: Slip out of Highway 1 at Rocky Creek having huge economic impact which extends widely
  • Re-opening not anticipated until Memorial Day
  • Twice daily convoys at 7:00am and 5:00pm
  • Local, state, and federal elected officials are fully engaged
  • 75 +/-horizontal moorings needed to stabilize hillside
  • Concern about keeping staff for local businesses prior to high season
  • Initial losses estimated at 1.5M per week
  • This reflects the hotel stays and not visitor spending
  • The Community Foundation for Monterey County (CFMCO) is accepting donations through its Big Sur Disaster Relief Fund to help those affected in the Big Sur community
