QUARTERLY BUSINESS INSIGHTS RECAP: Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center Update

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our April Quarterly Business Insights Breakfast presented by the Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center (FNMOC) and the City of Monterey.

Located in Monterey, FNMOC is the lead activity within the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) for numerical weather prediction and coupled air-sea modeling. FNMOC fulfills this role through means of a suite of sophisticated global and regional meteorological and oceanographic (METOC) models, extending from the top of the atmosphere to the bottom of the ocean, which is supported by one of the world's most complete real-time METOC databases. While focused on maritime travel, METOC generates environmental forecasts for military personnel and platforms functioning in all physical warfighting domains: sea, land, air, and even for space-based platforms.

FNMOC's customers include all branches of the Department of Defense, other government organizations such as the National Weather Service, private companies such as the Weather Channel, a number of colleges and universities, and the general public.

SPOTLIGHT: WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is an 11-turn, 2.238-mile jewel of a road course on California’s beautiful central coast. While the track is a favorite of racers and fans worldwide, many focus on one specific section—officially Turns 8 and 8A—or more commonly known as The Corkscrew.

A variety of racing, exhibition, and entertainment events are held at the raceway, ranging from superkarts to sports car racing to music festivals. It is one of the most popular race venues in the world because of its premier location, spectacular track layout, and rich history.

The Laguna Seca Recreation Area is home to a campground and Hospitality Pavilion with with breathtaking views of the race track and rolling hillside
