Healthcare
- Announced by Montage Health on June 10, 2024: Montage Health President and CEO, Dr. Steven Packer, Retiring
- CHOMP is little above capacity - in fact, all services are at capacity and this has been consistent - no longer ebbs and flows
- Why? Aging of community. Also, as CHOMP recruit additional physicians, it drives new business to the hospital
- Mindy Maschmeyer is the new Montage communications person
Human Resources
- Your Business May Need a Workplace Violence Plan in Place by July 1, 2024
- Signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2023, Senate Bill 553 requires most employers to establish, implement, and maintain a workplace violence prevention plan
- The new law takes effect on July 1, 2024 and can be found at Section 6401.9 of the California Labor Code
- It requires employers to do the following:
- create and maintain a workplace violence prevention plan
- provide effective training to employees in conformity with the workplace violence prevention plan
- provide additional training whenever a new or previously unrecognized workplace violence hazard has been identified and when changes are made to the plan
- record and maintain violent incident logs and workplace incident investigation records
- create and maintain records for workplace violence hazard identification, evaluation, and correction

Our annual Business Excellence Awards recognizes the best & brightest businesses in Monterey County, honoring their contributions to the local economy and community. More than 1,500-plus votes are cast by Chamber Members and the general public, giving recognition to those businesses that have achieved excellence in their fields.
Awards will be presented to the top businesses in 17 categories at the event, held Thursday, July 18 at the Monterey Conference Center.

Dr. Steven Packer, Montage Health President and CEO, Announces Retirement
After 40 years of service, 25 of them as President and CEO, Dr. Steven Packer announced Monday that he plans to retire in spring 2025.
Under his leadership, Montage Health has grown into a comprehensive healthcare system that is anchored by the extraordinary care provided at Community Hospital, and now reaches out to every corner of Monterey County and beyond.
Thank you, Dr. Packer, for your remarkable leadership and commitment to improving lives in our community.
