Cracking Down on Retail Theft in California

On Monday, Speaker Robert Rivas hosted a press conference in downtown Salinas to announce the passing of a package of bills to improve public safety and reduce retail theft.

Retail theft has been an increasingly serious problem for businesses in California. Repeated thefts have been cited in store closures across the state, depriving communities of brick-and-mortar options for their shopping needs. Additionally, increased security measures can hinder the customer experience and increase costs for businesses.

MPCC President/CEO Monica Lal joined Speaker Robert Rivas, California Retailers Association President/CEO Rachel Michelin, local elected officials, law enforcement leaders and business owners in championing these historic retail theft laws that will ultimately protect business owners, improve safety for shoppers and hold criminals accountable.

These new laws will not only be instrumental in Monterey County, but across the Golden State.
