The Application Period for Seats on the Sanctuary Advisory Council is Now Open!


NOAA is establishing a Sanctuary Advisory Council (SAC) for Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary (CHNMS) and is inviting applications for 13 seats (listed below) during a 60-day recruitment period from January 7 to March 7, 2025. To apply, please complete an application. For more information on Sanctuary Advisory Council membership, eligibility, and the application process, please visit this guidance document. NOAA will review applications on a rolling basis and notify selected applicants. Once all seats have been selected, the first advisory council meeting is projected to take place in Spring 2025.

More than $1.5 million is available for Monterey County students, thanks to generous scholarship donors who partner with the Community Foundation for Monterey County! One application allows students to be matched with more than 70 potential scholarships they may qualify for. Students can apply through the CFMC’s online scholarship system: cfmco.org/ScholarshipApply. The deadline to complete an application for the 2025/2026 academic year is Saturday, March 15, 2025.

SPOTLIGHT: CHISPA Housing, Inc.


CHISPA (Community Housing Improvement Systems and Planning Association, Inc.) is the largest private, nonprofit housing developer based in Monterey County. Their mission is to improve people’s lives and create healthy neighborhoods by developing, selling, owning and managing affordable homes. Since its incorporation in 1980, CHISPA has built and renovated 2,447 single-family homes and apartments for low and moderate-income people in Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz Counties. 


CHISPA offers onsite educational and recreational programs for the residents in their rental properties. They provide these through partnership with local community organizations and individual instructors, including YMCA, Boys and Girls Club of Monterey County, Read to Me Project, Alisal Percussion, Arts Council for Monterey County, and Alliance on Aging.


When you donate to CHISPA, you make a tax-deductible investment in the community. Your donation will fund after school programs, classes, and services offered to residents of CHISPA’s family and senior apartment buildings.
