Recap:
City of Monterey
- City of Monterey will be hosting a “Wildfire Readiness” Panel and Forum on February 27, 2025 at the Serra Room in the Monterey Conference Center from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM
- This no-fee event will include a panel beginning at 6:00pm with a robust presentation on emergency preparedness
- The following community organizations departments will be present to answer questions: Monterey Salinas-Transit, Monterey County Emergency Services, PG&E, California American Water, Monterey City Forester, experts on roofing materials, fire insurance, defensible spaces, and the SPCA, among others
Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST)
- MST has a new route from the Salinas Transit Center to Rancho Cielo (Line 40), assisting those with mobility restrictions to gain access to training and programs benefitting several local industries
- MST also recently received a Federal grant for 450k to assist college students with contactless payments using their Student ID
- This pilot program with Hartnell College is projected to be expanded to other higher learning institutions, and eventually the state
- The highly competitive grant was also awarded to the Port Authority Transit in New York
Hospitality
- Our industry partners and members are preparing for a busy AT&T week
- The new See Monterey website is operational. It includes AI-powered technology from Mindtrip, which helps users to plan trip itineraries
- See Monterey is the first tourism entity in the United States to offer this service on their website
Non-Profits
- First 5 Monterey County was recognized at the Board of Supervisors this morning for 25 years of serving our community
- United Way Monterey County is training its volunteers for its free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance service (VITA), which begins in February
- This is an excellent resource for hourly workers seeking to obtain all credits (such as the Earned Income Tax Credit—EITC) and refunds for which they are eligible
Monterey Regional Airport Construction
- Cement is being poured through mid-February for the Monterey Regional Airport Replacement Commercial Apron, which is Phase B of the five-phase MRY Metamorphosis safety enhancement construction program
