Recap:

City of Monterey

  • The City of Monterey will host a “Wildfire Ready Monterey” Town Hall event at the Monterey Conference Center on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:30 pm. 
  • With the fires in Los Angeles County fresh on our minds, it’s important for the community to be aware of how to reduce wildfire risk and prepare for wildfires
  • A panel discussion featuring wildfire experts will take place from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. An exhibit hall and breakout sessions will also take place during the event. It is free and includes validated parking in the Downtown East and West Parking Garages. Pizza and refreshments will be served
  • The County of Monterey Department of Emergency Management has a website dedicated to wildfire preparation: see Get Ready & Prepare: Wildfires



Tourism & Hospitality

  • Reported by Monterey City Manager Hans Ulsar, January 2025 TOT was up $400,000 from January 2024



Non-Profits

  • Everyone's Harvest, a leading nonprofit dedicated to providing access to healthy, affordable fruits and vegetables through certified farmers' markets and community food programs, has been awarded a $57,354 grant from the City of Salinas' Prevention and Wellness Grant Program
  • This funding will support the project "Addressing Nutrition Insecurity through CalFresh and Edible Education Expansion at Salinas Farmers’ Markets"
  • Julie Packard, the CEO of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, announced she is stepping away from day-to-day operations after 40 years
  • Packard has been the only CEO the Monterey Bay Aquarium has ever had. She will be transitioning from the executive director role to assume a leadership role on the aquarium’s Board of Trustees
