Celebrating Our 2025 Ruth Vreeland Memorial Public Official of the Year Award Honoree: Robin McCrae
Robin was born and raised in Salinas. She graduated from Salinas High School and studied English at the University of California, Davis, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in creative writing and master’s degree in poetry. She started her career at KSBW as Programming and Promotions Coordinator and Public Service Director. She has also worked at the SPCA of Monterey County as Public Relations and Development Director, Northridge Mall as Marketing Director, Monterey County Office of Education as Public Information Officer, and California School Employees Association as a Labor Representative.
Robin started at Community Human Services in 1992 as Administrative Assistant where she also managed grant writing and human resources. She has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Community Human Services, a nonprofit Joint Powers Agency, for the past 32 years. She is responsible for delivering high quality mental health, substance use, and homeless programs to the youth and families of Monterey County with a staff of 150 employees and a $18M budget. Community Human Services helps over 4,500 Monterey County residents each year overcome personal challenges and create lasting change in their lives.
Ms. McCrae has served on numerous councils and boards, including the Monterey County Children’s Council, Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council, Community Corrections Partnership, Leadership Council for the Monterey-San Benito Continuum of Care for homelessness, and Coalition of Homeless Services Providers. She has also been honored with several awards, including Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Nonprofit Alliance of Monterey County and the Monterey County Child Abuse Prevention Council, and a Community Impact Award from United Way of Monterey County.
