Response to immediate threat
1. City of Monterey. Planning Commission meeting today re: commercial cannabis lab testing; basis for a roadmap to be discussed at future City Council meeting on cannabis (December/January).
2. General Conversation: Kevin Dayton, Government Affairs Liaison: Summary of the Chamber’s endorsements and positions for the upcoming election of November 3, 2020. Proposed Government Affairs Committee Goals & Objectives for 2021: a) Ensuring a long-term sustainable water supply – b) Housing affordability for local workforce – a balanced choice of options – c) Promote military capabilities of existing bases – d) Support beach and ocean resources – e) Support transportation improvements. Chamber recommends a NO vote on Proposition 15 – 21 – 22, a NO vote on Measure Y and has a no position on Measure V. 3. Hospitality & Tourism. Two Monterey County Supervisors and Dr. Moreno visited the Monterey Conference Center to evaluate the facility to host meetings or events (25% of maximum capacity or 100 people); COVID testing site open in Seaside; see link below to register for free testing.
4. State of California. Sacramento report. Elections are the focus now; California restaurants demand state return liquor fees, other charges collected in pandemic.
5. Health Care. 11,419 positive cases in County; remain in purple tier; 5 cases at CHOMP; 90 fatalities in County, 5 at CHOMP; Flu shot clinic at the Chamber office 11/4 from 11:30am until 1:30pm, in partnership with VNA
6. Human Services. Universal Staffing reports an uptick in job inquiries; people look forward to end of public health orders while employers are transitioning back into more part-time operations.
7. Non-Profit sector. Rent and Utility assistance program with City and County CARES funds: $1 million in requests.
8. Education. Excellent 1st annual education forum last week.
