Response to immediate threat

1.   City of Monterey. Rental Assistance Program: 115 households assisted; check echofairhousing.org; propane tanks are not allowed under tents and canopies - restaurants can contact 646-3908 or fireprevention@monterey.org for guidance; Item #12 on the City Council docket will be reviewing the possible extension of parklets through October 2022 tonight; December 1st will address cannabis (roadmap to be discussed.)

2.   General Conversation: Community Foundation for Monterey County: Dan Baldwin, President/CEO - Overview of Monterey County GIVES! – website opened last week: montereycountygives.com; donations accepted through December 31; 162 non-profits participating; almost 5000 donors last year raised over $5M; theme is the organizations themselves this year; fundraising off to a good start this year.

3.   Agriculture. n/a

4.   Hospitality & Tourism. Campaign by MCCVB and MCHA to get residents tested; 49 counties are in purple; statewide hospitality attempting to get small meetings authorized; collaboration with Arts4MC to donate decorated masks for free.

5.   Retail.  n/a

6.   State of California. Sacramento report. “Emergency Brakes” placed on 94% of California; case numbers have doubled in last 10 days.

7.   Health Care. n/a

8.   Financial, SBA, Loans & Grants. New funding for small business loans now available for Monterey County businesses impacted by COVID-19. See details attached for two more loan options available in Monterey County.

9.   Human Services. n/a

10.Non-Profit sector. United Way reports on rental and utilities program: $200K distributed so far with $1M to go; landlords encouraged to participate; income of 80% of area median income is threshold for applying.

11.Education. n/a

12.Transportation. MST adding service to maintain social distancing as conditions change; PPE is distributed to drivers by vending machine; promoting a Rosa Parks Day in December.

13. Construction. TAMC reports Imjin Parkway project ($42M) to widen between Imjin and Reservation Rd; SR 156/Castroville Blvd Intersection project received a California Transportation Commission recommendation for a $20M grant, fully funding the $55M project (starting in 2022); SR 68 Salinas to Monterey evaluating installing roundabouts or advanced signal system; Fort Ord Regional Trail and Greenway project: first segment funded for construction in 2021/2022.

Oh, how times have changed. A year ago, when we launched Monterey County Gives!, a global pandemic would have been a lame attempt at a campfire story. George Floyd and Breonna Taylor were busy going about their lives. Cal Coastal Offering Options for Affordable Small Business Loans 
New! Emergency Loan Fund

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic that has negatively impacted many small businesses in the county, funds from the SBRLF will be used for an Emergency Fund that has been designed to support small businesses located within the County of Monterey. The County of Monterey has received an additional $1.6 Million from the Economic Development Administration under The Cares Act to support this effort.

To get started, potential borrowers may submit a pre-qualification at http://www.calcoastal.org/pre-qualification/ or by phone at (831)-676-2020. If eligible, you will be required to submit a loan application with supporting documents. For one-on-one assistance in completing a loan application, you may also sign-up for an appointment with our colleagues at Cal Coastal Small Business Development Center (SBDC) branch office at http://casbdc.biz/ccsignup or by phone at (831) 676-2017.

Go831 is a countywide travel demand management program sponsored by the Transportation Agency for Monterey County aimed at reducing traffic and improving air quality and health by encouraging smart commuting instead of driving solo. The program is offered for free to employers and commuters in Monterey County. It provides resources and assistance for employers and commuters interested in establishing or enhancing a smart commute program for themselves, their business or school.
