MISSION: success in two stages of the Coronavirus threat: 1.) response to the immediate threat - 2.) economic recovery when the threat diminishes.

Recap

  1. Healthcare. Montage 8-10 patients in house, 1 in the ICU. Expecting more cases over the holiday but not as severe as last year due to vaccinations, free, accessible testing, vaccine for children. Great response to new Trio Health Plan, new HMO in partnership with Blue Shield of California. National “Go for a Hike Day tomorrow, 11/17. Blue Zones has 7 hikes scheduled for and a beach cleanup on Saturday
  2. YMCA-Central Coast. YMCA teamed up with Monterey County Office of Education during pandemic. Created additional child care for essential workers, expanded an e-learning program and essentially served as teacher’s aide for 7,000 kids, 60% of which received scholarships.Collaborated with Food Bank in providing food assistance to elderly and working on y360 platform.
  3. Region. Monterey Regional Airport-almost back to pre-pandemic travel. October exceeded 2019 levels. Fares competitive with SF and San Diego. New infrastructure bill might see potential monies for terminal building. $12.5 million construction project done, secure funding for rest of program through infrastructure bill, staff shortages seen in grounds program and rental businesses. Woody’s Restaurant operational and busy.
  4. News Media. Monterey Herald - Annual Reader’s Choice Voting has started and going on until January 3rd.
  5. Financial, SBA, Loans, & Grants. Live Event Venues-California Venue grants program still taking applications. Disaster Loan SBA (EIDL) still taking new or increased loans, and will reconsider loan applications previously declined
  6. Transportation. MST is hiring. Issued 400+ day passes for people who obtained vaccinations
  7. Renewable Energy. Central Coast Community Energy New Electric Vehicle Program, inclusive of fleet vehicles
  8. ARC Redistricting Commission. Next meeting 11/18/21 at 353 Camino El Estero or virtually. You are encouraged to review the draft maps-discussion on moving DRO into District 5
