Everyone's Harvest Farmers' Markets Opens New Seaside Market on June 15 at Laguna Grande Park with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

June 13, 2023

MONTEREY, CA. (June 13, 2023) — Everyone's Harvest Certified Farmers' Markets will hold a grand opening for its new Seaside Certified Farmers' Market on June 15, at Laguna Grande Park that will include a special ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, June 15, and will include the Mayor and local dignitaries from Seaside.

The new market will be open from 3-7 p.m. every Thursday at Laguna Grande Regional Park, 1259 Canyon Del Rey Blvd. in Seaside. The market will feature cooking demos, live music, and much more. It will be accepting CalFresh/EBT, Market Match, WIC, & Senior FMNP coupons.

The market is still accepting vendors; if interested, apply at everyonesharvest.org.

"We are truly excited for this grand opening and this opportunity to help serve the Seaside community weekly with local sustainable produce, local food vendors and artisans, entertainment, and much more," said Everyone's Harvest Executive Director Hester Parker.

The new Seaside market joins five other Everyone's Harvest markets in Monterey County, including two year-round markets. The Marina Farmers' Market, 215 Reservation Road, on the corner of Vista Del Camino and Reservation Road in the Marina Village Shopping Center is open rain or shine every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., while the Pacific Grove Certified Farmers' Market is open rain or shine every Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. and is located at the corner of Central and Grand avenues.

And three seasonal markets in Salinas are now open, too: Salinas Valley Health Farmers' Market open Fridays from 12:30-5:30 p.m. at 450 E. Romie Lane; Natividad Farmers' Market open Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at 1441 Constitution Blvd; and Alisal Farmers' Market open Tuesdays from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at 632 E. Alisal St.

The Seaside market opens just in time for the coming of summer produce. Local farmers' markets will be loaded with fresh, nutrient-rich and organic produce, including leafy greens like kale, shallots, bell peppers, squash, tomatoes, garlic and herbs, such as parsley, cilantro, and basil.

Eating seasonally has been shown to help increase nutrient intake, contribute to a more sustainable environment and support local farmers. With that said, buying summer vegetables from your local Everyone's Harvest Certified Farmers' Market is a great way to improve your health and contribute to your community.

Recipe prepared by Everyone's Harvest Edible Education Coordinator, Beatriz Espinoza:

Fresh Summer Fruit with Coconut Whipped Cream (from Chef Talya Lutzker)

Prep time: 10 minutes

Shopping list/ recipe:

· 1 can full-fat coconut milk or coconut cream, refrigerated.

· 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

· 1/3-cup powdered sugar

· Pinch of salt

· 4 cups fresh summer farmers' market fruit such as peaches, nectarines, or berries

· ½-cup chopped plain or candied almonds, optional

·

Instructions:

1.Chill the coconut milk overnight or at least 4 hours in the refrigerator. You can also freeze the coconut milk for 1 to 2 hours.

2.Scoop and separate out the thick "coconut cream" from the clear coconut liquid. The cream is what you want.

3.Transfer the heavy cream from the coconut milk into a blender or medium-sized bowl. Use a blender or hand mixer to beat the coconut cream until it turns thick and fluffy, about 2 minutes on low-medium speed.

4.Blend or beat in the vanilla, powdered sugar, and salt. Sweeten to taste.

About Everyone's Harvest

Everyone's Harvest was founded in 2002 by Iris Peppard building on her capstone project as a student at California State University Monterey Bay. Since then, the small nonprofit has grown into a robust, values-driven 501(c)3 organization. It operates six certified farmers' markets and is a catalyst for health-related programs across Monterey County.

The mission is to provide access to healthy, affordable fruits and vegetables through certified farmers' markets and community food programs. The vision is for every community to have a fair and sustainable food system.

More than 2,500 families are served weekly by Everyone's Harvest markets in Salinas, Marina, Seaside, and Pacific Grove — with more than 25 small and mid-scale farmers serving them. Everyone's Harvest takes pride in the growing community of people who value sustainably grown food and rely on Everyone's Harvest for access to local fresh fruits and vegetables.

The farmers' market locations serve diverse communities and low-income people. Local hospitals host Everyone's Harvest Certified Farmers' Markets at Natividad Medical Center and Salinas Valley Health (formerly Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System). Everyone's Harvest pioneered access to several public nutrition benefits at its farmers' markets for everyone to access fresh, local, and organic and sustainably grown foods.

Everyone's Harvest also offers free space to other nonprofits, community groups, and government entities at its markets for public outreach.
