First-Time Event Brings Community Leaders on Track

MONTEREY, Calif., March 23, 2021 - Both classic and modern Porsches, beautifully restored MGBs, authentic Triumphs and BMWs were alongside cars as modern as Tesla, Aston Martin and Ferrari as they filed in to drive the track. John Narigi, president and general manager of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, in an effort to bring positive attention within the community, welcomed members of the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce as they brought their cars to drive the track in order to get a small sample of the excitement the facility brings to the community and beyond.
 
"What we're hoping to do is bring more local attention to this facility," said Narigi. "As we prepare to come out of this pandemic, the goal is to showcase the importance and the joy this world-famous race track and recreational area brings to not only the county of Monterey, but the state as a whole. This iconic facility is something you all own with the County of Monterey. Important business owners and executives are here today to experience what the world's best drivers and riders do, albeit much slower."
 
As the cars entered the track in groups of 25, smiles and cheers were plentiful. People honked their horns and waved as they turned to leave the park after their laps were completed, confirming an unforgettable experience. Michael Troutman, a Chamber member and award-winning photographer, was poised at the famous corkscrew turn to snap images of each car as a gift to drivers to commemorate their two paced laps around the track.
 
Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce CEO Frank Geisler was among the nearly 100 chamber members who participated. "The drive on the track event was a superb opportunity for our members to experience this gem of a race track that is responsible for such a significant economic impact," said Geisler. "Our sponsor Virus Geeks was equally impressed with the drive and all the smiling faces. Let's do it again!"
