of Monterey County Opens New Office in Oldtown Salinas
The Blind and Visually Impaired Center of Monterey County is pleased to announce the opening of their new office in Oldtown Salinas, located at 236 Monterey Street. This location, part of Alliance on Aging's HUB project, is staffed on Tuesdays and Thursdays, providing the Center a critical outreach point in Salinas and surrounding communities. The office officially opened on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. This new office also hosts a peer-led support group on the second and fourth Thursday of the month at 10:00 AM. All our welcome to join free of cost.
"In our fifty-year history we are proud to have opened a second location in the heart of Oldtown Salinas" says Steven Macias, Executive Director. "We had six clients in attendance at our first support group and have been seeing a steady increase in those attending. We view this office as a bridge to those who may not be able to attend our support group or braille classes at our Pacific Grove location." The Blind and Visually Impaired Center of Monterey County offers a peer-led support group, braille classes, Orientation and Mobility services, Vision Rehabilitative services, a low vision exam clinic with two highly trained local Optometrist and assistive technology and devices. Funding is in place for clients under certain income thresholds and clients are not charged for services other than meeting with the low vision optometrist.
The mission of The Blind and Visually Impaired Center of Monterey County is to empower the blind and visually impaired toward independent living through education, support services and skills training. The Blind and Visually Impaired Center of Monterey County is a 501(c)3 non-profit agency that has provided free or reduced cost services since 1971 to Monterey County residents who are visually impaired.
